The name of the Facebook company has changed. The new name is Meta. Until now, Facebook was the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. There was speculation about the name change, but finally, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg himself shared the news on Thursday night.

In 2015, Google changed the name of its parent company to Alphabet. However, this name did not come to the fore. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name. He originally unveiled plans to create an online world called Metaverse – where people could use VR headsets in a virtual environment to perform a variety of tasks, as well as play games and communicate.

The term metaverse was first coined by Neil Stephenson in his 1992 dystopian novel Snow Crash. In that sci-fi, everyone uses virtual reality headsets to communicate through the digital world like a game.

Mr. Zuckerberg said that over time, users will no longer have to use Facebook to access other services of the company. The new name reflects that. The word meta comes from the Greek word, which means out of bounds.

Therefore, it is not possible to capture the extensive activities of this company with the Facebook name of the Mandhata period only. From social media, the company’s media has now entered the virtual reality platform. That’s why Zuckerberg’s team has chosen ‘Meta’ as a suitable name that can capture these wide-ranging activities.
